Wednesday, October 20 2004, 16:47:20 #14995 xp pro. To the best of my knoweledge (don't laugh at that) server will be useless to you. Unless you just want to install and configure it for practice.

Wednesday, October 20 2004, 16:50:31 #14997 As for a developer of web applications and database programming and management, network administration, 2003 Server will be useless. Ok I'll stick to XP. I can also get 2000, but I heard bad thing happen to people who have it. |

Wednesday, October 20 2004, 16:58:51 #15001 Well you mentioned network admin in there, I guess it might not hurt to know the windows server versions. I've never messed with 2003 but I know 2000 server is just tons more security and permissions and also has all of the user-group tree stuff in there also. Also I've heard of games that won't work on the server versions! GASP!!!
Aren't most big networks anymore unix based anyway? |

Wednesday, October 20 2004, 18:52:05 #15011 I've been using Windows 2003 Enterprise for quite a while now. Almost a year total. With a little modification, it can run nearly all software and games as XP/98. I personally love 2003. My evaluation from MS is expiring in 29 days though, so I just installed Windows 2000 on another drive for now. I want to install XP or 2003 again, but I don't want an evaluation. And legit keys are hard to find. I need to be able to update via windows update, and with pirated keys, I don't wanna deal with it. This copy of Windows 2000 I have is legit as I get.
I may just reinstall another evaluation on my main drive. Pain in the ass though |

Sound, Themes, Graphic Accelleration etc are all disabled by default. |
