I just found this out the other day and thought I would share this tid bit of information with you guys to help you save some money if you are upgrading your computer. Now keep in mind that this is general information, and I'm not sure if the same rule applies to the USA or not (I'm guessing it does), but everyone should be aware anyways.

Before you actually purchase any upgrade peice of hardware, you should definatley shop around first. This sounds like common sence to you now doesn't it? Yes, this you already know, but what you "probally" don't know is that you should be able to bargain the price down to 70% of retail cost. This was told to me by the owner of a local computer boutique because he wanted to try and fuck over a music store that screwed him out of one of his sound card suppliers (M-Audio) so he was kind enough to share some "internal" information with me Very happy but in doing so, made me aware of how much money people are really pissing into the wind, so going forward I will be barganing for all hardware upgrades.

He told me that I should aim for 70% of the retail cost, and see what kind of discount they offer. He started to say (but didn't completley finish his sentence, but I figured it out anyways Very happy ) that retails purchase computer parts at 60%, so I should be able to get it for 70% of retail cost (which would make sence).

The trick is to tell them that (this other store name) does not have it in stock and will have to order it, but if you wait you can get it for (price here). If he does not have it in stock, and says he will have to order it as well, just tell him that if he can beat the price or at least match it (the fake price you just gave him) you will buy it from him instead. Then call up the other store and do the same thing.

If he does have it stock, then just ask him whats the best price he can give you (you've already done the math before you call, so you know what you can get it for) then refer back to the other store.

I would suggest getting on "good terms" with a local dealer and even asking him if someone calls regarding a price if he can confirm the low price. If he wants to help you out he will do it, but if he doesn't then you'll have to bluff your way and hope he they don't call which they usually don't because people are lazy.

This procedure can take a little time, but has already shaved $29.99 + taxes off my sound card, but I'm not done yet. Just be friendly and select your words carefully, and let them know that if they will do this for you, that you will purchase future upgrades from them, and how pleased you are with what they did for you.

To be honest, if someone is going to cut me a good deal, I'll go back and buy from them again anyways, so really its a win-win situation for both.

Good Luck! Very happy
