Well I'm at work (my home computer works fine) and I cannot for the life of me get connected to our server and I keep getting the same error message.

CL_PARSERVERMESSAGE: READ PAST END OF SERVER MESSAGE

I think I've tried about everything short of reinstalling quake3. Just a few minutes ago I deleted the entire Battle folder and redownloaded it from the server, still with no luck. I've even tried googling the search with no luck on help.

Any suggestions? This is really starting to piss me off.

Wartex is there a way you can view the log files and see what might be going on?

Tuesday, February 8 2005, 08:21:50 #21477     A couple thoughts...

Keep in mind that these thoughts are coming from the Noobest-of-All-Noobs!

First, do a Google for just "READ PAST END OF SERVER MESSAGE" -- including the quotes. I found lots of hits... but I'm at work and the bullshit filtering won't let me into the search results. (They have NO sense of humor!)

I *think* the CL_ prefix referes to client-side variable. That would explain why home machine works ok but work 'puter does not. Have you tried copying the home configuration onto the work machine?

Probably have firewall at work... any chance router is 'filtering' or altering packets?? Have you tried connecting to server through dial-up with work computer? That would further narrow down source of problem... i.e. firewall/network vs. game/software on 'puter.

Sorry Psycheus... that's all I can come up with at the moment. I'll do more checking this evening.

Thanks Slowhand. Thats not a bad idea, gives me some other things to try. I actually found out yesterday that the admin made some firewall changes which might be part of the cause... is this going to mean no more quake at work ??! NO!!!

Edit your q3config.cfg from baseq3 folder, make it 0 bytes and make it read-only.

Ok I'll try that. I'm just curious what the reasoning is behind it? Thanks Wartex Mr Green

Actually the admin is a jackass and never looks at the logfiles. Besides we are on an unregulated network.. Oh you know what.. I just got a thought. Wartex there was another post about proxies.. SOCKS I believe you said works for quake3.. Can you point me to a site so I can check one out?

1) q3config contains illegal model name

2) Use forum search. Or http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=public+socks+proxy&lr=

Good It worked. So does that mean I just need to make another config and then after I connect do a /exec psy.cfg ??
