I've played on 1.32 for 2 years now with a cd key that's worked all the time, today though, it came up on nearly every 1.32 server Invalid_CDKEY which was really annoying. I spoke to Ice and he told me to try a few things, none of which worked, then he told me there was a fix but he can't remember, do any of you guys know what it is?

Assuming it is a valid key (?):
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Navigate to your Quake 3 folder
3. Toolbar: Click Search
4. Type in q3key
5. RIGHT-click file in baseq3 folder
6. Select :Open With - WordPad
7. CONFIRM that cd key matches value in file. If it doesn't, change it but ONLY cd key value. Make no other changes to the file -- like removing square box!
8. Save the file.
9. Mark down WHERE this file appears... the folder names in your search results. Although I don't *think* this file has to be in these other folders, COPY the verified/corrected q3key file (in baseq3 folder) to every FOLDER displayed in the search results.

There are other variations of this idea. Example: delete ALL copies of this file. Start Quake and enter CD key in setup. [Psssst: keep one copy in safe spot just in case you need to start over! ]

I just had this problem myself. My CDKey was one of the originals from the initial release of Q3. I typed in my Team Arena CD Key (minus the last 2 digits) and that worked. Now obviously, it shouldn't have, but *shrug* The other one SHOULD have so I guess karma.

I get that too sometimes.. it's probably from other people with Key Gens that are too fucking cheap to buy the damn game using your CD Key.

I suggest sending and Email to ID and explaining the problem. They may issue you a new valid CD key or even better, tell you how to fix the issue!

ID don't bother with e-mails. A friend of mine has sent ID and a game company e-mails about hardware bans for botters and they've completely ignored them. ID are a waste of time with e-mails. And besides, got it fixed now, check out the date.

ID doesnt do the bans. Thats probably why he didnt get a response.
