I guess they didn't stop to think that the world has been around for millions of years; even before Jesus/God was ever thought about. Unless a large meteor is coming our way (which I am sure scientists would know about) or the earth transforms into a super nova, it will be around for millions of years to come.

At which point we will be extinct just like other species or move to a different planet because we produce more garbage than we can clean up. The planet will be fine because it survived worse. There is also an option of USA fucking with Russia and Russia wiping the whole earth with countless nukes, thousands of which are not accounted for due to shitty record keeping after Soviet Union collapsed, but they are still there and still manned and maintained in hidden underground shafts.

Eventually, long after all the pests/diseases' are dead (i.e. humans) the earth 'may' recover, but it won't happen over night. It's actually quite amazing how the earth has been impacted by us since the industrial revolution. At the rate we are pumping toxins and shit into the atmosphere, it wouldn't surprise me if we see people walking around with oxygen tanks just to breathe before we die off. If we are lucky we won't see it, but our poor kids no doubt will
