Hey Guys,

I've been working most of the day on getting a new server online. We are replacing an old server that is very outdated with a nice new dell. Anyways I moved the database and everything was fine.. until I tried to install PHP. What a PITA!! After most of the day banging my head against the wall on a last ditch effort I stumbled across a guy that made it so simple I wanted to kick my own ass for how stupid I felt after reading it and trying it. With in 2 mins it was working. There are so many misinstructions out there that will really mess you up so don't even bother. Here it is in 5 steps!

1. Download PHP at http://www.php.net/downloads.php. Make sure you dowload the zip package, the installer package wont work.

2. Extract the downloaded zip file to a directory of choice on your harddrive. The rest of this guide will assume you are using C:\PHP

3. Add C:\PHP to your path. From the Start menu, right click My Computer and select Properties. From the Advanced tab click the Environment Variables button. Under System Variable find Path and click Edit. At the end of what is already present in Variable Value add a semicolon (Wink and then C:\PHP.

4. Configure IIS. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager from Administrative Tools (found directly in the Start menu or in the Control Panel)

a) Web Service Extension. Click down to the Web Service Extension folder. Right click the folder and select Add New Web Service Extension. Set Extension Name to .PHP and add C:\PHP\PHP5ISAPI.DLL to Required Files . Check Set Extension Status To Allowed.

b) Web Sites. Click down to Web Sites. Right click the folder and select Properties. From the Home Directory tab click the Configuration button. Click Add to add an Application Extension. Enter C:\PHP\PHP5ISAPI.DLL as Executable and PHP as Extension. Leave the rest as default and click Ok.

5. All set! To test your PHP installation simply create text a file with the php extension, eg. test.php. Add the following three lines of text to it and then save it to your web site directory, eg. C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT. Then use your browser to read the file, eg. http://localhost/test.php

Here's a link Tjitjing Blog

Hopefully I can save someone else sanity on installing PHP.

Thanks Rick, I've ran into this before except with apache, I fucked with it until I developed my own install procedure. Also there is a 1-click install: http://www.denwer.ru/

Apache, SSL, SSI, mod_rewrite, mod_php.
PHP5 with GD, MySQL, sqLite.
MySQL5 with transactions.
virtual hosts control panel with templates.
php/apache extensions control panel.
phpMyAdmin
sendmail and SMTP server emulation and debugging

No problem. Yes it was a huge headache. Actually for some reason that installation didn't work because it was the wrong version (for my software I'm using Tucows Platypus) so I had to do it by using the automatic installer here

http://php.iis.net

Anyways hope this helps someone else that may run into it.

PS It would be nice if you posted it so anyone that can't speak russian can understand the site Smile
