Friday, September 30 2005, 15:51:19 #29075 There ought to be a formating utility on your windows 2000 cd. Its been a while since I've installed 2000, but you should be able to format right from the install gui like in xp.

I must confess that I don't know what 'format XP' means. When installing an NT-based OS, the install looks at the drive to see if there is another OS already installed. If there is, it advises against installing the second OS on the same partition. The install program also modifies the boot.ini file to provide the startup menu. Installing a second OS should require you to do nothing -- except make sure BIOS see CD before HDD as previously noted. |

Sunday, October 2 2005, 18:21:22 #29104 Easiest way for you to accomplish this...
Reboot. Hold F8 for list of options Boot into command prompt Use Fdisk to wipe out drive completely Insert OS CD Reboot Hold F8 again to get into bios, change boot to CDROM Voila! |

Hold F8 for list of options Boot into command prompt Use Fdisk to wipe out drive completely Insert OS CD Reboot Hold F8 again to get into bios, change boot to CDROM Voila! if memory serves me correctly, you can not boot up with f8 and use fdisk because it is CMD prompt not DOS and the os is still running in the Backgroud and you CAN NOT format an active partition. Bootable disc is required! - this is also a secuirty feature for NT so any hack cant come in a f8 to delete your drive. On a side note, You can install to OS's after windows 2000 and dual boot, but this will most likely not solve your problem with your pc. It will eat up more space on your OS and anything like virus's will still be on the HDD. Formating to solve a problem is best. Only use Dual boot to run to different OS systems like 2000/98 xp/2000 2000/w2kserver etc. Hope this helps. also, just reading your last part of your post, F8 is boot screen not BIOS screen |

Monday, October 3 2005, 11:34:27 #29119 My fault..Delete loads the bios screen. Maybe i encountered a fluke in my OS, because that's how I reinstalled XP when it got virused. Interesting. Oh well, flaws in the system |
