Monday, November 15 2004, 11:39:47 #16795 GeForce Overclock? I downloaded the OMEGA drivers 61.77 for my GeForce, and all the sudden I can overclock my graphics card... Heh. Never done it before, so I'm posting a picture here so y'all can see what it looks like for me..
If I overclock it, will I get better fps in ... Say Doom 3? How much can I overclock? And if I do overclock, do I need to buy fans and stuff to keep my GeForce FX5600 cooler? Thanks _________________ In reallife I'm a perfectly sane person, I just like to make a fool out of myself to get some unwanted attention to get rid of. |

They'll put different fans and heat-sinks on, so one brand might cool better than another, letting you oc more. So its not just about chipset. Mine is an Asylum. Monday, November 15 2004, 12:47:48 #16806 Overclocking core does not give as much effect as overclocking memory, however it's better to keep the ratio.
In your case it's 0.675 Say you clock memory to 500, then core has to be 500x0.675 = 337.5 If you start having artifacts on textures (spots, lines etc) drop the memory speed by 20 MHz, and core by 15. Do it until there is no artifacts visually. Then drop the speeds by 5% on each. Most chips have a feature like VPU recover, so if you go too far the card will drop the speeds even below the default speed, until the next restart. _________________

Monday, November 15 2004, 12:57:49 #16808 question for photek: does this software have an optinon for english when you install it
question for wartex: when I'm doing tests to weed out these graphical glitches, will any game work.... will it make a difference with what game I run. Or maybe these things show up right on the desktop after you adjust them? Will I be in any real danger of ruining something? |

Monday, November 15 2004, 13:44:18 #16828 Well mine didn't. I did get a game with it though (Aquanox 2, location: somewhere in a junkyard) and a program called Power DVD. |

Monday, November 15 2004, 13:48:43 #16831 Artifacts will show in games, on 3D stuff. If you go nuts, 2D part of the chip will be affected and you will see shit on your windows desktop too. Overclocking IS dangerous. If done properly, with good cooling, it will work for a viable lifetime of the vid. Lets say on stock frequencies it's projected to work 10 years. On overclocked - 3. In 3 years you will change the vid anyway. Before you do anything, browse forums to find out user feedback on "clockability" of this partcular model/brand.

Monday, November 15 2004, 13:53:13 #16832 Don't overclock too high, you'll lose the card.

Tuesday, November 23 2004, 12:45:21 #17526 k I'm reading up on the omega drivers stuff. This guy does this shit for free, thats nuts. I should probably donate if I end up using this.
Most recent omega driver version is the one photek installed. I'm running a newer driver version, 66.93, released by nvidia earlier this month- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93 So the 61.77 is a step back. He says (the omega guy) that he releases omega drivers as he has time, so no telling when he'll have the 66.93 set out. The only think i see about the 66.93 set thats better is that it supports direct x 9.0c. There are some other small differences but nothing performance related. I don't think 9.0c is even being used by applications yet. I want the features of the omega stuff, so should I install this and run an older driver version? Will it affect anything? If I end up liking this omega stuff I'll probably just update my vid drivers through there, and not even check nvidias site. I know this is getting a bit technical so if there are any driver gurus in the house please stand up please stand up ty |

Wednesday, November 24 2004, 01:12:02 #17619 well I installed the driver and oc'ed a bit. My pos card actually won't over clock much. The driver is really cool though, lots more options, and tests for when you overclock. I must have uped it too much the 3rd try cuz it said "NOPE, SORRY, YOUR NOT GOING THERE." Not exactly in those words.
I followed wartex's forumla above very closely. I can't tell some major difference other than the temp being about 7 or 8 degrees higher on the average. Hl2 ran very well, I'm not sure if its cuz of the overclock or the new patch thats supposed to clear up stuttering. Unfortunately both were installed at the same time Also, I clicked on "keep fan always running". Do you think I should uncheck it? Please reply before detonation. 5....4....3.....2....BOOM to late |

Thursday, January 13 2005, 13:05:59 #20182 nvidia comes with a overclocking system built in sometimes u may half to unlock it in the registry very simple actually and its called CoolBits. Nvidia puts the feature into it but for some reason its not unlock so with the simple thing of one dword value in the registry u can unlock this.
Here u guys go. http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_coolbits/ |
