Good movie. Its one of those movies you will like or hate. I though it didnt really make its point if it had one. But it was an interesting look into the lives of people with in a war....

He is one of those actors who will cry if slapped. Kinda like Tom Cruise.

I liked the movie for what it proposed; a fucked up kid in a fucked up situation. I read the book a couple of days before the movie came out and I enjoyed the book much more than the movie. The book touches on a plethora of topics and emotions that aren't even mention in the movie that lead the reader/viewer to draw a better conclusion as to why this kid is such a dumbass.

There were obvious discrepencies in the translation from print to film, but I won't hold it against them since most of it was well done. Anthony Swofford (the main character) is what they refer to in the Corps as a shitbird. And since many people have asked, that Troy guy died in a drunk driving accident (he was the drunk).

I actually recently saw it, and it was a great movie. I didn't like the ending however. The one thing I didn't like about the movie, is the entire movie was about them waiting for the war, instead of fighting it, kinda lame in that respect.

That's what it was supposed to convey, T3h L4m3.

Atleast, that's what I took from the book. He went through all this training to be a killer and then when the time came to put the training to use, he can't use it and gets pissed off. Some people just can't handle the training mentally, and he was one of those guys.

BTW, in the book, they did sight the guy in the tower at the airstrip and never got the order to fire. No one ever came in and sat with them while they watched it being firebombed. That's absolute complete bullshit as far as military tactics go. You would never see an officer walk right up to scout/sniper team without announcing it via radio - instant death. Atleast, that's what I would do if I were the spotter (Troy). I would have my gun trained on the door while I'm giving the sniper his windage and elevation.

Essentially what happened was that they never got the order because, according to Swofford, some SSG or the like wanted his platoon to get their respective ribbons and that it was more important for them to see action than the sinpers.

In the end, it was about a bunch of trained killers full of testosterone being bored in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and when nothing does happen, one of them acts like a dumb fuck. Which is the reason that Swofford left the USMC after 4 years as a Private, which is something you have to work hard on.
