Monday, May 7 2007, 17:17:41 #39990 looks good.. but for like a few more bucks you can get a better processor for running VISTA.. I just bought a toshiba myself, but with XP PRO, and I like it: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16834114289 is what I bought..
The warranty is BS..dont pay extra for it.. you get one year manufacture warranty which is fine. _________________

Monday, May 7 2007, 18:48:38 #39995 Well it's really for my fiance and she's probably going to drop it. It covers if anything happens. So whatever, but thanks for the comments.

Monday, May 7 2007, 19:58:45 #39998 Without warranty, it's a decent price for that system. Also, I recommend you burn all the drivers that came with it including updates from the website onto 1 CD and keep it safe. Toshiba is known for removing old drivers and bad support for older stuff. And yeah, install XP or Ubuntu instead of Vista.

They make COMP off selling the ESP... really not worth it.. its like paying 5 bucks a month for insurance on your phone.. Also if you want to get your fiance a knock around Laptop.. look at the ACER laptops on Newegg.com... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115356 your price range: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2030080032+4021&name=%24500+-+%24750 |

Wednesday, May 9 2007, 16:42:55 #40025 Having used both Windows and OSX, I prefer OSX for school work and Windows for everything else. I intend to buy an external HD to run either XP or Vista off of on the Mac.

Friday, June 22 2007, 09:24:59 #40175 Hey. I'm looking for my own laptop now. Would like to stay under about $800 and doesn't have to be smoking fast, but I would like to be able to play some games on it. Don't need a huge screen either (but wide screen would be nice).

Go to bestbuy, find either "last one" or "display model" for 800-900, it will most likely be on sale. Ask the sales clerk if he could give you extended warranty for 3 years and accidental warranty as well for 3 years (you will pay about $250 for both), mention you are short on cash so you'd buy the warranty if he could give you a discount. You'll probably get another 10% off ($80-90). Come back next day and cancel both warranties and get a full refund but you keep the discount. I bought people $1000 laptops for around 840 bucks. |
