Just curious what you guys think about this North Korea shit. Supposedly he's going to testfire a missle directly at Hawaii, but not a missle with enough range to reach the island. Now, he could have picked any direction he wanted, but he's obviously going for political effect, as if to say, "Watch out, I could hit you if I wanted to."

Personally I think this guy is off his rocker, so we should be hesitant to make any direct action against N.K., but still, I think it would be a mistake for any country or the U.N. to let themselves be bullied.

Obama knows that being a war-time president is risky in the polls, and I assume he wants to be re-elected, but I think people in the U.S. are gonna start getting restless if someone doesn't start backing up all the finger-wagging that the world has done at N. Korea that has so far gone unheeded.

What do you guys think?

Wasn't kim jong il very sick recently? I was hoping he'd kick the bucket. Definitely off his rocker, but he's always got the flyest shades. Very happy

After seeing this thread, I went to digg and immediately saw a news article on this.

One person made a particularly interesting comment, although I don't know how much water it holds:

"The fact that it is toward Hawaii is nearly irrelevant. They have to fire it over water, and not at China. That pretty much leaves toward Hawaii. Now if they were firing ON Hawaii I'd be very worried indeed. Really the bad thing is that they are testing missiles right now. Including Hawaii is just a nice bit of rhetoric."

It depends on who the "at Hawaii" thing originated with. If it was just a bit of hype that some reporter stuck in, then yes, it is less significant. But, I suspect that that was put in there deliberately by the N.K.s as a symbolic thing against the U.S. It would be consistent with Kim jong Ill's recent behavior.
Also, I think directing some of the brashness against the U.S. specifically might have strategic merit, because after what happened with Iraq and how that war is perceived, Obama will probably be reluctant to instigate any direct action because he wants to avoid that Bush effect on his poll numbers. If N. Korea can make others shy away from punitive action, it can buy time to fully establish its nuclear force, at which point it will be even less popular an idea to attack them.

We can only hope that his heir has less militaristic ambitions... and better fashion sense Tongue

His shades are pimp. Any guy that has raw fish flown by helicopter to his private train to eat is off his rocker as you put it. Why waste a boat load of money on flying raw fish for him when he could use it to sort out his shitty-ass country?
