Make up a domain name for our quake servers. Must be as short as possible and reflect DRC in some fashion. Use www.register.com to find out if the name is taken.

q3drc.net is by far the shortest and easiest to remember that is available.

as well as drc.cc and .tv, but those aren't as known as .net/.com

unfortunately i have no clue how much either one
of these costs (if there's even a price difference
at all) for i haven't registered for tld names so far
myself.

since it's a "service" (server browser), this should
be somewhat emphasized in the domain name.

drcworld.com was taken away due to misinformation from the registrar. We decided to pick some other name and Wang came up with InstaFrag.com.

You can connect to any of the following clan servers by typing
\connect <servername>

Where <servername> can be one of the following (for now, we will have more):

drc.InstaFrag.com
dod.InstaFrag.com
opc.InstaFrag.com
xls.InstaFrag.com
dbr.InstaFrag.com (they have servers on 3 diff IPs, I added one before they straighten their shit out)
raw.InstaFrag.com
em.InstaFrag.com
ii.InstaFrag.com (they are fags but I still added them for my OWN convenience)

InstaFrag will have a separate website, http://wartex.net/instafrag/ for now (http://instafrag.com redirects there), where clans will be able to apply for a free subdomain like clan-name.InstaFrag.com instead of people using IP adresses which tend to change.

If someone wants they can buy drcworld.com as a supplement and have it redirect to wartex.net. It's $35 per year. I don't think this is an enormous amount of money (9.6 cents a day) and is a good contribution to DRC.

Anyone here wants to help me to design and promote InstaFrag brand? Remember guys, this forum, hosting, domain names, server, power that server uses ($50 a month), time that I invest into looking for new maps/mods, hardware - all this costs money. I thank everyone for their contributions, Iceman for the server, Psy for $20 that I bought the pizza for for HomeLAN with Iceman, Wang for the domain name ideas, Rarek for his support and help in catching fags, Cannonfodder and Arclite/Photek for banners and screenshots, Voodoo for mapping (that he never finished tho), Intekra for the first forum and everyone else for random stuff.
I'm asking for help and hope that you will respond. It happened in the past that certain members simply ignored me and decided to "enjoy it while it lasts", fortunately they are not in DRC anymore. I'm not asking anyone to cut me a check for 5 grands because "I'm so awesome", I'm asking you to invest some time into DRC (again, NOT for me, for everyone), we are friends, with time you will understand how valuable everyone is, it's a great opportunity to make life easier, to have fun, to be with people whom you trust. Lets promote our comminity. I asked DOD if they want to exchange banners, mr.worm said he will talk to his webmaster. I want to continue the develpment of the Parallax Server Browser project and roll out the InstaFrag free (at leat for the next 12 months) subdomain service for clan servers. Psy, Marble and Wang are willing to learn PHP language and I hope once they get the basics they will help me with my DRC projects, others who are not into programming can fuck around with photoshop and make cool banners (88x31 or 468x60 pixels), screenshots, demos, movies, thank god there is more than enough material in Announcements to do this. My 2-week vacation is coming up (May 23rd) so I will finally complete the website design and we will have a decent website besides the forum.

Hey Wartex! I got one quick question. Since you want to give clans the opportunity to register their IP with a dynamic domain name (e.g. dbr.instafrag.com) that will resolve to their q3 server (right?), how do you want the updating to be done if say a clanserver relies on dynamic IPs?
I hope you won't go for PHP in that case. I think a small C++ program would be nice. I have pre-diploma tests coming up this autumn, where I will also be tested upon my C++ knowledge. Could I try to create an autoupdater for dynamic IPs?

Registrars will never let you modify the static DNS with a few billion records in the database with your C++ utility. I need to change it manually. If everything is so bad and their IP changes every 10 seconds, I can point name.instafrag.com to name.dns2go.com, and they will have a client (there is a shitload and a small cart of them, on C++, PHP, Perl, ASP, ColdFusion, Python etc) running in the background sending new IPs to DNS2GO. You will do a better job if you write a browser plugin that launches quake and passes parameters to it. You need to go and look for q3plug source on sourceforge.net, you just need to "copy and paste", cut out all the q3plug bullshit and only leave 1 button that launches quake.

create a fake protocol PSB in registry:

To enable an application to handle a particular URL protocol, you must add a new key, with the appropriate keys and values, to the registry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

The new registry key must match the protocol scheme that is being added. For instance, to add the protocol note:, the key added to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT should be note. Under this new key, the Default string value should be the name of the new protocol, and the URLProtocol string value should contain either protocol-specific information or an empty string. Also under the new key, a DefaultIcon key and a shell key should be added. The Default string value under the DefaultIcon key must be the file name to use as an icon for this new URL protocol. Under the shell key, a key using a verb (such as open) should be added. A command key and a DDEEXEC key can be added under the key using a verb. The values under the command and DDEEXEC keys are used to call the application.

The following example shows which registry values must be added to register a new application (notepad.exe in this example) to handle a new URL protocol (note:).

(5) you can also try to run the drc.exe without the link
6 tell me the problems you've had (except for the warning at the
beginning, that's normal. it's because of the "special" compiler i have)

source is also available. keep in mind though, this is a very basic version.
no error-checking, no pointer-deletes (=> very small memory leaks. the
garbage collector will filter them out), no logo, no intro, nothing. just click
and quake.
