I've been using FF for about two months... I've had ZERO issues. Good It has several features that I really like!! Very happy One of them is username/password manager.

The only 'annoyance' I see is that clicking on the down-arrow next to the address box unfolds the list -- for 10 milleseconds. Flip off Click it again and the list stays open. Question

I recommend it.

lol its just as easy as windows to setup now. unless u run some thing like gentoo.

ive found opera to be the best at popup blocking. and the rocker buttons are great for flipping thru a page of thumbnails. (god knows why you'd wanna flip thru a page of thumbnails with one hand Yes) but ff has better mouse gestures sw
Good

I would love to install Linux, but I'm worried I'll loose everything on my HD ( I know I can back it up, but I just don't want to take the chance of loosing everything Tongue ).

Right now compatibillity worries me and most and finding the right drivers to make everything work, and knowing me and my past "experiences" I would no doubt fuck it up somehow Laughing

That's why you make partitions. You won't lose anything as long as you partition correctly. Combatability is fine, linux can read vfat, ntfs, whatever.. and the only "drivers" you would have to worry about would be for your graphics card, and as long as you have nvidia you won't have a problem. ATI people normally see a descrease in performance for their linux drivers (cuz ATI sucks ass). If you're a linux noob, I would recommend Red Hat/Fedora/Mandrake/Suse/maybe even Debian. Most of those distributions have install cd's that recognize your windows partition and can take action accordingly without losing anything Smile You can set up a dual boot computer in no time. Just make sure your windows partition resizes itself, otherwise you might overwrite some of your linux partitions because Microshit chose not to recognize any linux filesystems.

PM me if you have any questions Smile

How about an on-line Linux course... setup a date whereby everyone should have their 'clean' machine -- ready for Linux install.

Every third day (or whatever is agreed upon), another step in the install/configuration is posted. So even if you're like me --Slow -- Very happy you will not miss anything. The info will still be in the thread. DRC University lives!!

Obviously, more details would have to be worked out... but what do you say Prof Jag??

If there is any group interest, I'll post more preliminary questions... what hardware needed, what Linux version to get -- and where?, etc, etc

Sure, we could do something like that.. but every person won't want the same exact type (distribution) of linux. I've been helping slim with Gentoo's install lately, mostly because it's the hardest pain-in-the-ass install for a linux box (but well worth it) and because I've been using gentoo for 1.5 years now.

It seems that most linux distros have a tremendous amount of documentation, so if you're really willing to go through the process Slow, find a distro with which you think you would like the most (i.e. if you're mostly comfortable with a strictly GUI environment that's already setup and tailored in a default configuration [like windows] then Fedora, Red Hat, Mandrake, and Suse are probably the ones you'll enjoy the most). If you're a configuration junky who likes everything customized to your liking (like me) then gentoo is my recommendation, however it might be one of the hardest linux distros to get used to.

I know that Zyprexa, Slim, and maybe Marble and Iceman have shown some interest in linux. And I'm more than willing to help you guys out, as Slim has found out (must have spent 6-7 hours helping him in the install). You guys need to google around though, there are SOOOO many flavors of linux (the actual linux kernel is only 50-100 megs zipped) you need to know what linux distro you want and WHY you want it.

I'd be more than willing to teach some very useful/common commands, how init scripts work, how to set up a server of any kind, how to fully customize your GUI, important programs, configuration files, directory structure, file systems, partitions, how to setup and compile your kernel (very important!), .. etc

And all of these things can be achieved WITHOUT restarting your computer *gasp*.

We should probably start a new thread.. as this one pertains to Firefox and not Linux Smile If you guys have ANY questions, IM me on icq/msn/aim/yim Smile
