Thursday, May 18 2006, 02:43:36 #34729 Ya, it kinda sucks. Huge dust bunnies collect inside it, but that tought me a very important lesson: don't clean out your pc with a shop vac switched to blow |

Thursday, May 18 2006, 10:33:04 #34742 If you vacuum your PC, static on the nozzle will fry RAM, VRAM and maybe chipset.

Thursday, May 18 2006, 11:26:09 #34744 That mousepad is nothing compared to my old one, it looked like something which had been swepped from a pigeon loft, a dog had thrown up on it and then squashed by a truck. It still served me well tho I ain't got a pic of my system yet - I'll show ya when I see it. P.S. Your desk is not as messy as mine usually is. |

I have way too many computers.. been thinking about running some servers or something to put them to use. There are only two computers I actually use, my desktop (w/ Sun 21" monitor) and my laptop and only on occation. I don't know what the deal is but lately computers have been falling out of the sky into my lap. Most of them execpt the main desktop have been given to me and the HP9694-c I found (still has DVD player and CD burner, SCORE!). |

Wednesday, September 16 2009, 09:41:52 #42548 Posting this from my new comp. Got pissed off at low framerates in games and built a new machine.
Specs: 6gb ram DDR3 1333 Mhz Intel Core i7 920 quad core 2.66 Ghz ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 mobo EVGA GTX260 OC 860 MB video card 4x WD 2500AAKS SATA 2 drives in Raid 10 (528 MB/s burst, 177 MB/s random read) PC Power & Cooling 750 W PSU AOpen hi-tower case (fucking huge) Initial testing, first boot:
Hard drives:
Vid Card EVGA GTX 260 OC, Core 216, 896 Mb VRAM
PSU
Mobo ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
DDR3 OCZ 1333 MHz, 6Gb
Case size:
----------------------------------------------------------------- and my old Comp: I'm replacing the water with distilled water. The store bought distilled water has a bittener agent so people don't drink it. Distilled water is poisonous in large quantities because it dilutes electrolytes in your body and can kill you. The bittener is so fucking strong that a tiny drop on your tongue will make you gag. I used the filter from a pressure washer to capture algae from old water. Waterblock on the CPU is Zalman copper, and the chipset one is the one I made since there is no chipset waterblocks for ASUS P4P800SE mobos.
Vid card used to be ATI x800XL and had a waterblock on it but I removed it to sell it and installed BFG 7600 GS (got it for $50 CAD on sale). I also had Messiah's 6800 GT OC in there but memory wasn't cooled properly and I will start having corrupt textures after playing for a long time (solid green pixels on textures in random places). The drives are WD Caviar 16 SE Black, 2x 250 Gb in RAID 0. RAM is Corsair, I think 1 GB dual-channel. CPU is P4 2.8, FSB 800, HT. I used to have 2x 36GB WD Raptors in this setup in RAID 0 and man, was it ever slow. I can't tell why but it seems WD doesn't work nicely with Marvell onboard RAID controllers. The new 250 GBs are way faster. Radiators are transmission radiators for big trucks. I have one on each side. Case is AOpen hi-tower, same as my new PC.
Sound is M-Audio Audiophile 24/96. Original setup had only a PSU fan which only spins when it gets hot, so my PC is dead quiet, I have to look at LEDs or pick up the mouse to see if it's on. |

Wednesday, September 16 2009, 14:56:35 #42551 Very impressive!
I use the swiftech water additive with distilled water, works well. The top cooler, a Koolance unit off an older build is for the CPU/North and South bridges. I just use the Koolance coolant for it. Been thinking of buying the q9550 or Q9650 to replace the Q6600. Not sure ...... Its all about the overclock.. I was though thinking about upgrading the video cards, but I already have the 8800gt peltiers. So if I cant use same peltier water blocks with maybe the new single Nvidia 295 card then I'll wait. Anyway I haven't had too much trouble in the graphics dept. as of yet. I use 2 PSU's 1 1200 watt for system, and a 1000watt unit for the video card peltiers. Found a cool article in CPU mag. on how to make the second PSU start with the computer. Works very well.. Do you play online far away from your monitor? |
