Monday, November 29 2004, 23:53:18 #17875     The Micro Box!

I got this new computer, it was HP e-Vectra with a 10 gig hard drive, celeron 733 and 128 MB ram. I upgraded it to P-III 800EB, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, and rechrinstened to "The Micro Box". I also got a 17 inch Benq LCD monitor for it, so I put the computer in backpack and carry the monitor to school, and sit there with a full computer instead of having a laptop with 14 inch asshole display and shitty small keyboard. I drilled over 200 holes in it to make it lighter and it lost about 40% of it's weight. Was 3.9 Kg now about 2.5 Kg.

It has everything I need, USB, LPT, COM, PS/2, LAN:

Full-sized CPU (I will upgrade it to P3-1300EB):

LAN chip:

Removable HDD bay before drill rape:

HDD bay lid after "enlightening":

Screen:

Bottom of the skeleton after drilling:

I got a 1-platter slim 40 GB HDD for it (which I regret about now, because it heats up to 60-70 0 C, never buy Maxtor! Western Digital for life!):

One of the drawbacks is gayness "2 option" BIOS, only lets you change basic stuff like sound enabled/disabled, time:

It also has a shared-memory Intel GPU, which is fast enough to render Quake III, 48 FPS at 16 bit 640x480. Quake II runs perfectly on this machine (90+ FPS):

256 MB standard-size SD RAM:

It also has a 24x CD, which I will change to DVD later on, it's standard Slim-ATAPI:

This is how motherboard looks like:

Complete system:

After the drilling I spent good 2 hours removing metal peels from the carpet:

I will use it for web design and programming, so CPU power is irrelevant, it's fast enough for me to spec matches, play Q2 and P3-1300EB is not really bad, considering it's the most efficient CPU (ops/MHz are better than in P-4). I'm planning to get a USB floppy and a compact keyboard (one without the numeric keypad).
There is no barebone on the market that can beat this computer in speed and size, it's a true Micro box. Very happy

I traded the comp and screen for a laptop. I only paid $25 for RAM upgrade.

Awesome work!

I found the perfect keyboard if you had bluetooth (PDS fold up's are really nice), but since you don't, check these out:

Or just get a roll-up keyboard Good
