weighted rating (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

where:
R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 1300)
C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.7)

for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.

I'd say Robocop, Terminator, Short Circuit, Flight of the Navigator (when I was a kid nearly peed myself from VFX), Shawshank Redemption. Never liked Star Wars, only parodies. Seem too cheesy.

There are a lot of russian movies I would like you guys to see. They are "Shawshank Redemption" quality movies, very good acting and very emotional. No fake explosions and fights are way more real, storylines based on real events. Basically the opposite of hollywood.

I'm in the process of making english subs exclusively for DRC for one movie, and also making russian subs for Final Fantasy movie. 80% on each and can't fucking find time to finish.

I've seen all of those except Dark Night and 12 Angry Men. I thought One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was overated, or maybe I'm just too young to appreciate it. I loved Shawshank, Godfather 1 & 2 (not 3 so much). Pulp Fiction is a classic . Schindler's List is a film EVERY man needs to see.

If you're accustomed to horror movies being an hour and a half of simple blood and gore scene after scene, Psycho will be a refreshing break: it allows you to get to know the characters somewhat before shit goes down, so that when it does, the suspense and nightmarish situations seem real. It is a lot more interesting to me than the "torture porn" we have nowadays.

Psycho is like a classic movie. It's something everyone has to see in their lifetime. There are a few movies like this and Psycho is one of them. The shower scene is to me more chilling than some new shit like The Grudge or The Ring, which is pretty much garbage. The "horror" genre is gone now, it's been replaced by gore and guts and crap which makes you shit yourself on the spot. To me that's not horror, it's just OTT "we-can't-think-of-a-good-horror-storyline-so-we'll-throw-somebody's-head-into-this-scene". Ya dig? Whatever happened to the classic horror like Rear Window, Psycho, When A Stranger Calls?

I liked The Omen and The Shining though. The Exorcist was okay, just not my type.

I love that The Shawshank Redemption was number 1 and listed by many of you as well. I think that everyone in the US has seen half of the edited version 10 times on TNT in passing.

American History X is definitely in my top few! It's only problem in my view is the basketball scene. Being a guy who loves to watch and play, its tough to see the skinhead actors fumble around and beat the black dudes.

One film I love to see every time it comes on the telly is Commando. I've lost count on how many times I've seen it, but I have to see it every time. Definitely my favourite Arnie movie.

Last couple films watched:

Under Siege (Seen this too many times, it's entertaining enough)
Cocktail (Used to love this when I was younger, ain't seen it in years but it just happened to be on the TV yesterday)
Plains, Trains and Automobiles (lols from the start, I love Steve Martin)

To anyone who hasn't seen it, get American Gangster. True story. Probably one of my top 3 atm.

P.S. Glad to see a lack of LOTR mention in this thread. What people see in them films is beyond me?
