Friday, November 18 2005, 18:51:09 #30528 Tribulation Old school q3 trick video:
http://planetquake3.net/download.php?op=fileid&lid=989 these are kinda the 'fathers' of q3 tricking. Thses guys are total strafe and ob gods, pay attention to the dm17 stuff... its incredible. You can see how Cetus got a lot of his ideas and influence from these guys. Keep in mind most of these demos are 2000-2001 (vid was released before qcon 2k2) so its before all the fancy big freestyle maps like cos_beta. You won't see any eye-popping 11x rocket stuff. Just real strafe and control skill. _________________ 46 and 2 |

Friday, November 18 2005, 22:52:55 #30530 Being before 'made-for-tricking' maps these guys had to fully exploit every nook and cranny of the map which takes a lot of practice. Also I'd say that this is 98% all hand-done (I only saw one definite script used in there, but there may be more).
Lots of people watch those huge 3x to 4x to overbounce with 2 nades and then 2 more rockets and then they fly through a 2-inch hole and land 4 more rockets and then fly back to where they started, and you think WOW thats incredible. It IS incredible, but.... many times those tricks use rj scripts, or plasma scripts, or "zero movement" scripts to get crazy overbounces, and on top of all that its timescaled (kinda like bullet-time, where the environment is slowed down but you can turn and use weapons in real time). And then if they miss they use save position (only available with cheats enabled) to 'warp' instantly back to the beginning, cutting down set-up time, and start it all again. It becomes more an exercise in patience than in skill; eventually your just BOUND to land the damn thing. They still score huge points for crreativity though. But these guys aren't doing that stuff. They're just running and jumping, and in some cases stringing multiple tricks together which imo is really putting on a show and a display of skill. |

Saturday, November 19 2005, 01:23:23 #30531 Very cool. I just watched it.
I don't like all the shit that gets too crazy. I like seeing jumps that people might actually use in a game. |

I did that one on Q3dm19 a while back, the one where you stand at RA fire three rockets at the lamp by the quad etc... .. landed that |
