Sunday, March 27 2005, 11:41:39 #23445     Virus Software...

I currently have Norton and have tried McAfee in the past... Are these the ones to have - I have Norton on all of my business computers - as for my home computers I have Norotn on all of them and end up paying out the arse for the upgrades; which by the way are getting out of hand... Eek!

Is there any others out there are there any that are free that are worthwhile? Or should I just keep paying the upgrades??? Dam I hate software... WTF

Thanks for the help in advance! Good

Oldie... based on many years of experience, I HIGHLY recommend Trend Micro's PC-cillin.

I have seen Norton cause more problems than it solves!!!! McAfee just doesn't seem to be as extensive in virus/worm detection.

I have set up Trend Micro on probably three or four dozen computers and several servers. It has a built-in firewall, anti-spam, email scan, etc, etc. Although I run it on every computer at home, I find that putting it on my Internet gateway blocks all bad things BEFORE they get onto my network. I can send copy of firewall log, if you want.

PC-cillin is not hard to configure... but if you don't set the firewall up properly, it will shut down desired communications. Yes It's THAT powerful!!

I buy Trend Micro as a 5-license pack... about $125 for 5. I recently renewed my definition update subscription for the five licenses... THIRTY BUCKS!!!! That's 50 cents per month per license to keep virus-free!!!! Norton wanted $320 for same renewal!!! BS! Do NOT go with free anti-virus protection... what if the 'volunteers' that are updating the definitions aren't as vigilant??? Commercial anti-virus is simply a cost of having a computer on the Internet/email.

I can provide MUCH more detailed info if you want it. I STRONGLY recommend Trend Micro over all others!!!!!

PS I think I can get you the product at a reduced price... maybe!!

Definitely need to take Norton off ASAP because I switched to Norton one time and my pc seemed to get raided with virusses pretty damn quickly Dizzy McAfee is way better than Norton but then again it does not catch everything. Stick with Oldie on this one Yes

Trend Micro (TM) has a free on-line virus scan here:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

They have an extensive knowledgebase... fully searchable. They also have a section on hoaxes... for when you get that email from your well-intentioned friends announcing the mother of all viruses -- telling you to pass the email on to 1000 of your best friends!!! Flip off

I just recently converted a tax account's network to TM... they haven't had a single problem maintaining it... it runs by itself!! Not one virus worm has penetrated... Rocket Launcher and it saved them big bucks!!! Yes

Oldie... call me on Skype tonight... maybe around 9 or 10PM. I will walk you through the setup/configuration, if you want. It is not that hard, but easier if you have done it before. Cool

I'd buy that Kaspersky software just from the guy sitting in the chair on their site. He looks intense. Smile

Wartex showed me the Kaspersky last night. That prgram is awesome. I have Norton and Mcafee and they found nothing like kaspersky did. I have had this active x thing that would prevent me from opening regedit and services. Its rechnically spyware but the spyware prgrams would not remove it. I give that program alot alot of credit. Very usefull tool I must say. Fuck the other virus scans stick with Kaspersky.

Yes I will purchase the full version. It made that much of a impression on me.
